Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s jaw about them movies like “The Running Man”, you know, the one with that big fella, Arnold? I reckon some folks call it a real classic. Seen it myself, back when it come out, Lordy, that was a time!
Now, I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’, but I know what I like. And if you liked “The Running Man”, you might just like some other movies too. They ain’t all the same, mind you, but they got that similar kinda… feel, you know? That fight-for-your-life kinda thing.
One fella, Stephen King, he wrote a book called “The Running Man”. But that movie, well, it weren’t nothin’ like his book, he said. Took the name and a few ideas, then went its own way, I reckon. Still, that movie, it got folks thinkin’, that’s for sure. Makes ya wonder what kinda world we’re headed towards, all that TV and whatnot.
There’s this here movie called “Battle Royale”, come from Japan, I think. It’s a real doozy, let me tell ya. Kids fightin’ each other, last one standin’ wins. Kinda harsh, but if you like that “Running Man” action, you might just stomach this one too. Heard tell it’s a real nail-biter, though I ain’t seen it myself. Too much blood and guts for this old gal.
Then there’s this “Blade Runner” movie. Older than “The Running Man,” I believe. Got that same kinda dark future look, you know, all gloomy and such. Ain’t exactly the same story, but it’s got that feel. Makes ya think about what it means to be human, and all that deep stuff. I tried watchin’ it once, but fell asleep halfway through. Too slow for my taste, I guess.
Now, some folks say there’s a whole bunch of movies like “The Running Man”. Like, seventy-somethin’ of ’em! Can you believe that? I sure can’t. They got all sorts, from them newfangled streamy things to the ones you gotta go to the picture show to see. One they talk about is called “The Hunger Games”. Never seen it, but I hear it’s got young folks fightin’ in some kinda arena. Sounds kinda familiar, don’t it?
And then there’s “Demolition Man.” That one’s got that fella from “Tango and Cash” in it. Sly Stallone, I think his name is. He plays a cop, frozen in time, then wakes up in the future. It ain’t exactly like “The Running Man”, but it’s got that action and a bit of that future stuff. More funny than scary, though, from what I hear.
See, “The Running Man,” that movie was about a cop gettin’ framed, then forced to fight on TV. Set in 2019, they said. Well, 2019 come and went, and it weren’t nothin’ like that movie, thank the Lord! But it makes ya think about how things could be, ya know? About them rich folks gettin’ richer and the poor folks sufferin’. That’s somethin’ that ain’t changed much, no matter what year it is.
There’s even websites where folks go and talk about movies. They rate ‘em, write reviews, make lists. It’s like a whole ‘nother world out there on that internet thing. They can tell you all sorts of movies you might like, based on what you already seen. Pretty clever, I guess, but I still like talkin’ to folks face to face. Gets lonely just starin’ at that screen all day.
So, there you have it. A few movies you might like if you liked “The Running Man”. Some old, some new, some foreign, some American. All got a little bit of that fightin’ and that future stuff. But mostly, they got that somethin’ that makes you think. And that’s a good thing, I reckon. Even for an old gal like me.
