Alright, let’s gab about them scary movies and the colors they use. You know, the ones that make your hair stand on end? Yeah, those.
Scary Movie Colors – What’s the Big Deal?
Now, I ain’t no fancy movie expert or nothin’, but even I can see them colors play a big part in makin’ a movie spooky. It ain’t just about the jump scares, ya know? The colors, they kinda set the mood, like when you see a whole lotta red, you just know somethin’ bad’s gonna happen.
- Red, Red, Everywhere Red: Like I said, red means trouble. Blood, mostly. But it can also mean anger, or like, someone’s really, really hungry… for somethin’ they shouldn’t be! You see a lot of red, you better start hidin’ behind the couch.
- That Creepy Blue-Green Stuff: They call it cyan, or somethin’ fancy like that. Makes everything look cold and spooky. Like moonlight, but the kinda moonlight where monsters come out to play. Makes the people look all pale and sickly too, which is never a good sign.
- Yellow and Brown, Not So Sunny: You’d think yellow is all happy and sunshine, right? Wrong! In these scary movies, they use this kinda faded yellow or brownish color, makes everything look old and dirty. Like somethin’ died a long time ago and nobody cleaned it up. Gives ya the creeps, it does.
- Orange, Not Just for Pumpkins: Sure, orange is for Halloween pumpkins and all, but in scary movies, it can be fire, or somethin’ worse. Like, someone’s gone crazy or is doin’ some weird ritual. Not the good kinda ritual, the kinda ritual where you end up sacrificin’ chickens or somethin’.
Some Movies That Do it Right
Now, there’s this movie, Suspiria. Heard of it? It’s old, but boy, is it somethin’ to look at. All sorts of crazy colors, real bright and wild. Lots of red, of course, ’cause, well, it’s a scary movie. But it ain’t just red. It’s like a rainbow gone bad, all twisted and creepy. That fella Dario Argento, he knew what he was doin’.
Then there’s this other movie, Creepshow. That one’s fun, in a scary kinda way. Like a comic book come to life, but the kinda comic book that gives you nightmares. They use all sorts of colors in that one too, real bright and bold. Makes it all the more memorable, you know?
Why They Bother with All Them Colors
You might be thinkin’, “Why they gotta go to all that trouble with the colors? Just scare me already!” But it ain’t that simple. The colors, they get inside your head, make you feel things you don’t even realize you’re feelin’. Like, if everything’s blue and green, you start feelin’ cold and uneasy. If everything’s red, you start feelin’ scared and anxious. It’s all part of the trick, see?
More Than Just Blood and Guts
And it ain’t just about makin’ things look bloody or gross, though there’s plenty of that too, mind you. Sometimes, it’s about makin’ you feel uncomfortable, unsettled. Like somethin’ ain’t quite right, even if you can’t put your finger on it. That’s where them muted colors come in, the ones that ain’t quite bright, ain’t quite dark. They just…are, and they make you feel…off.
It Ain’t Always the Same, Though
Now, some folks like them scary movies all dark and gloomy, with not much color at all. And that’s fine, I guess. But me? I like a little somethin’ extra. I like them colors, even if they do scare the bejesus outta me sometimes. It makes it all more… well, I don’t rightly know the word, but it’s like… more impactful, yeah, that’s it.
So, next time you’re watchin’ a scary movie, pay attention to the colors. You might be surprised what you see. And you might be even more surprised how it makes you feel. It’s all part of the fun, I reckon. Or maybe it ain’t fun, maybe it’s just plain terrifying. But hey, that’s why we watch ’em, right?
