Okay, so I wanted to get more eyes on my horror movie reviews, right? I figured the best way to do that was through hashtags, but man, it’s a jungle out there! So many options, and I wasn’t sure which ones were actually going to work. I decided to get my hands dirty and do some testing.
First, I made a list of all the horror-related hashtags I could think of. Stuff like, you know, #horror, #horrormovies, #scarymovies, #horrortok, all that jazz. I even threw in some more specific ones like #2023horror or #horrormovies2022, since I review new releases too. I also found this “hashtag generator” online, which was kinda cool. It helped me find related hashtags I hadn’t even thought of. It’s not perfect, but it is a good start.
Then, I started posting my reviews on different platforms – Instagram, TikTok, even Facebook and Tumblr. I know, I know, who uses Tumblr anymore? But hey, gotta cover all the bases. For each post, I experimented with different combinations of hashtags. Some posts got the basic #horror and #scary, others got a whole bunch of specific ones. I even used #fyp and #viral on TikTok. Don’t judge me.

Round Three
I posted a review of “The Platform” with just the basic hashtags.
I did a review of a 2023 horror flick, using those year-specific hashtags, plus some of the ones from the generator. I made sure I wrote down which hashtags I used for each post.
On TikTok, I tried those trending ones everyone talks about. It felt weird, but whatever.
I tracked my likes, comments, and follows for a few weeks. It was a bit tedious, but I really wanted to see what worked. Turns out, the year-specific hashtags did pretty well, especially for newer movies. The TikTok ones got me some views, but not always the kind of engagement I wanted. It seems a mix of general and specific hashtags is the way to go. And the basic ones, like just plain old #horror, still get the most traction overall. Who knew?
So yeah, that’s my little hashtag adventure. It was more work than I expected, but I definitely learned a lot. Now I have a good list of hashtags to use, and my reviews are getting more attention. Mission accomplished, I guess!
