Okay, so I’ve been binging “BBQ Showdown” on Netflix lately, and let me tell you, my mouth has been watering the whole time. I just had to try some of these recipes myself. I mean, who could resist, right?
So, first things first, I started digging around for some of the recipes from the show. I found a few that looked promising, especially those from Rasheed Philips – that guy really knows his way around a grill! I decided to go for a full BBQ plate experience, you know, the whole shebang – meats, hot sides, cold sides, the works. It’s not really a cookout if you’re just having one thing, is it?
I picked out a couple of different recipes. For the meat, I went with a smoked brisket because, come on, it’s a classic. Then, for the hot sides, I chose some mac and cheese and baked beans. And for the cold side, I figured a good old-fashioned coleslaw would do the trick. I don’t want to be promoting anything here but the show made me want to do this.
Let me tell you, getting everything ready was a bit of a process. I spent the whole day before prepping – marinating the brisket, chopping veggies for the slaw, soaking the beans. It was a lot of work, but I was excited.
The next day, I fired up my smoker early in the morning. I carefully placed the brisket inside, making sure the temperature was just right. It was a waiting game. While the brisket was smoking, I got started on the sides. I whipped up a creamy mac and cheese sauce, simmered the beans with some bacon and molasses, and tossed together the slaw with a tangy dressing.
After about 8 hours the brisket was ready. The smell filled up the backyard. I took the brisket and wrapped it with foil and let it rest for an hour. Then I sliced it open, and man, it was juicy and tender, with a beautiful smoke ring. Just like on the show!
Finally, it was time to eat. I arranged everything on a big platter – the sliced brisket, the creamy mac and cheese, the smoky baked beans, and the crunchy coleslaw. I have to say, it looked pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. And the taste? Oh boy, it was amazing. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth good, the mac and cheese was cheesy and comforting, the beans were sweet and savory, and the slaw was the perfect refreshing contrast.
This whole experience really made me appreciate the art of BBQ. It’s not just about grilling some meat, it’s about the whole process, the time, the effort, the flavors. It’s a labor of love, that’s for sure. The personal stories simmer throughout the show. It was really an enjoyable experience.
I’m definitely going to be trying more recipes from the show. Maybe next time I’ll tackle some ribs or maybe even a whole smoked chicken. Who knows! All I know is, my BBQ game has definitely been leveled up.
Here are the things I cooked:
- Smoked Brisket
- Mac and Cheese
- Baked Beans
- Coleslaw
Alright, folks, that’s it for my BBQ adventure. Hope you enjoyed it!
