Alright, listen up, y’all. I heard some talk about this grilled cheese movie they’re makin’ down in New Orleans. Don’t know much about movies myself, but folks been gossiping about it somethin’ fierce. Heard it’s got that fella, Michael B. Jordan in it. You know, the one from that Black Panther movie? Yeah, him.
Now, I ain’t got no clue what a “grilled cheese movie” is supposed to be about. Maybe it’s about makin’ the best darn grilled cheese sandwich this side of the Mississippi? Lord knows, I can make a mean grilled cheese myself. Butter, good bread, and plenty of that melty cheese. That’s all you need, really. But these movie folks, they like to complicate things, I reckon.
They filmed some of it in Donaldsonville, they say. That’s not too far from here. My niece, she went down there to try and catch a glimpse of that Michael B. Jordan fella. Said he’s even prettier in person. Kids these days, always chasin’ after them movie stars. I told her, you better be careful, them city folks ain’t always what they seem.
- They say this Michael B. Jordan fella, he’s workin’ with that Ryan Coogler fella again.
- Them two made that Black Panther movie, so I guess they know what they’re doin’.
- But a grilled cheese movie? It just sounds plain silly to me.
Heard they were lookin’ for extras, too. Just regular folks to stand around in the background, I guess. My neighbor’s boy, he went and tried out. Didn’t get picked, though. Said they wanted folks who looked “authentic.” Whatever that means. Maybe they shoulda come and asked me. I’m about as authentic as they come.
This Ryan Coogler fella, he’s the one writin’ and directin’, they say. Sounds like a big job. I hope he knows what he’s doin’, makin’ a movie about grilled cheese. I mean, there’s only so much you can say about a grilled cheese, ain’t there? You melt the cheese, you grill the bread, you eat it. End of story.
But then again, I heard tell that they got some fancy grilled cheese sandwiches in them big city restaurants. Stuff with fancy bread and fancy cheese and all sorts of other fancy fixin’s. One fella told me about a sandwich that had gold flakes on it! Gold flakes! Can you believe that? What a waste of good gold, I say. You can’t even taste it.
I reckon this movie’s gonna be set in New Orleans, though. That’s where they filmed most of it, from what I hear. New Orleans is a wild place. Lots of music and dancin’ and all sorts of carryin’ on. Maybe this grilled cheese movie is gonna be about more than just grilled cheese. Maybe it’s gonna be about life, and love, and all that other stuff they put in movies.
I still don’t understand why they call it a grilled cheese movie. Maybe it’s just a code name. Like how they used to call liquor “white lightning” during prohibition. Maybe this movie is secretly about somethin’ else entirely. Maybe it’s about spies or aliens or somethin’. You never know with these movie folks. They’re always tryin’ to pull a fast one on ya.
Anyway, I’ll probably go see it when it comes out. Just to see what all the fuss is about. And maybe to see if they show how to make a real good grilled cheese sandwich. But if they put gold flakes on it, I’m walkin’ out. That’s just plain wasteful.
So, there you have it. That’s all I know about this grilled cheese movie. Not much, I admit. But I’m just a simple country woman. What do I know about movies? I’m just hopin’ it’s a good one. And I’m hopin’ it doesn’t make me crave a grilled cheese so bad I gotta go make one at midnight. ‘Cause that’s just bad for the digestion, you know?
I tell ya, this whole movie business is a mystery to me. But if folks wanna make a movie about grilled cheese, I say let ’em. It’s a free country, ain’t it? Just as long as they don’t go wastin’ good food, I ain’t got no complaints.

It’s a whole lot of somethin’ about nothin’, as far as I can see. But maybe, just maybe, it’ll turn out to be a good movie after all. We shall see.
