Well, let me tell ya ’bout them movies in New England, ya know, the pictures they show in them big buildin’s. I ain’t been to too many myself, but my grandkids, they go all the time. They drag me along sometimes, and I gotta say, some of ’em ain’t half bad.
First off, findin’ a place to see these here movies ain’t hard. They got these big theaters all over the place, like that Cinemark place. Grandkids say you can even get yer tickets online now, fancy that! No more standin’ in line, I guess. They always talkin’ ’bout showtimes too. Seems like them movies run all day and night, mornin’, noon, and even late. You can find all sorts of times, like on a Monday, they got the regular ones, they say. And some of them shows, they even got them words on the bottom, somethin’ they call “closed caption”. Helps folks like me who can’t always hear so good.
- Seein’ a movie ain’t cheap though. I remember when it used to cost a nickel, maybe a dime. Now, them grandkids tell me it’s like ten dollars, sometimes more! Heard tell it’s gone up even more these past few years. Inflation, they call it. Sounds like a fancy word for things just gettin’ more expensive.
- But sometimes, you get lucky. They got deals, like on Wednesdays. “Limited time offer” they say, and you gotta hurry to get it. Maybe you can get two tickets for the price of one, or somethin’ like that. They call it “Meerkat Movies” or somethin’ fancy. Always gotta be jumpin’ through hoops, I tell ya.
Now, the movies themselves, they’re somethin’ else. Some are just plain silly, all shootin’ and explodin’. Others are kinda nice, tellin’ stories ’bout folks and their lives. My grandkids, they like them superhero ones, all flyin’ and fightin’. I prefer the ones about real people, ya know? The ones that make ya think a little.
One time, they took me to see a movie in Boston, at a place called Simons IMAX Theatre, right there by the New England Aquarium. That was somethin’ special, I tell ya. The screen was huge, bigger than my whole house! And the picture was so clear, it was like you were right there in the movie. They call it “digital 2D, 3D, IMAX, 4DX” – all them fancy words again! But it sure was somethin’ to see.
And if you don’t wanna go all the way into Boston, they got theaters everywhere. Like in Waltham, they got this place called Fandango, or somethin’ like that. Grandkids say you can find all the showtimes and tickets on your phone now. Imagine that! Carryin’ all that information in your pocket.
But you know what gets me? All this talk about “reserved seating”. Back in my day, you just sat wherever you wanted. Now, you gotta pick your seat ahead of time, like you’re buyin’ a plane ticket or somethin’. And don’t even get me started on the snacks. They charge an arm and a leg for popcorn and soda, it’s highway robbery, I tell ya!
And another thing, it ain’t just buyin’ a ticket. That place, that theater, they gotta get permission to show the movie, and they gotta pay for it too. Plus, they gotta pay the folks who work there. No wonder them tickets cost so much!
But I guess, every once in a while, it’s nice to go out and see a picture show. Gets ya outta the house, gives ya somethin’ to talk about. And even an old lady like me can appreciate a good story, even if it’s on a big screen with all them fancy special effects. Just gotta remember to bring my earplugs, them movies get awful loud sometimes! And maybe sneak in my own snacks, don’t tell nobody I said that!
So, if you’re lookin’ for movies in New England, just keep your eyes peeled. They’re everywhere, these movie places. Just be prepared to shell out some cash and maybe put up with some crowds. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? And who knows, you might even see me there, sittin’ in the back, tryin’ to figure out what all the fuss is about.
The Heart of New England, that’s another movie they talk about. Seems like they show it all over, even near Boston. Always somethin’ goin’ on at them movie places, always somethin’ to see.
So, that’s the long and short of it. Movies in New England, they’re a big deal, I guess. Fancy theaters, expensive tickets, and stories that make ya laugh, cry, and everything in between. Not my cup of tea all the time, but the grandkids love ’em, and that’s good enough for me.
