So, I was thinking the other day about getting into filmmaking, right? Like, making my own movies and stuff. Sounds cool, huh? But then I realized I knew nothing about cameras. Zilch. Nada. I mean, I’ve got my phone, but that’s not gonna cut it for making a real movie.
So, I started digging around. I asked some friends who are into photography, and they threw some names at me. Blackmagic, Sony, Canon… I was like, “Whoa, slow down!” It was all Greek to me. Then I hit the internet, reading forums, watching videos, you name it. It was a lot to take in. After a while, I realized that some cameras are just way too expensive. I mean, I’m not trying to be the next Spielberg here, just want to have some fun and maybe make something cool.
I finally narrowed it down to a few that seemed good for beginners and didn’t cost a fortune. I ended up picking the Sony a6400. Why? Well, it seemed to have good video quality, and it’s not too bulky. Plus, it has this autofocus thing that sounded pretty useful for someone like me who’s not exactly a pro at focusing.
I ordered it online, and when it arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I ripped open the box and started playing around with it. I won’t lie, it was a bit intimidating at first. So many buttons and settings! But I found some tutorials online, and slowly but surely, I started to figure things out. I practiced shooting some videos around my house, just random stuff. My cat, my plants, you know, the usual. It was actually pretty fun!
The Real Test
Then came the real test. I decided to shoot a little short film with my friends. We came up with a silly idea for a story, and we went out and filmed it in a local park. It was a blast! The camera worked great. The video quality was awesome, and the autofocus really did its job.
Of course, the film itself was far from perfect. We made a bunch of mistakes, but we learned a lot. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Learning and having fun.
Here are some of the things that I tried and learned in the process:

- Figured out how to adjust the exposure.
- Learned about different frame rates.
- Experimented with different lenses.
- Got the hang of basic video editing.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of filmmaking cameras. It’s been a fun ride so far, and I’m excited to keep learning and making more movies. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even make something that’s actually good! Haha, just kidding… or am I?
