Hey everyone, it’s been a while! Today, I wanna talk about something I tried out recently – colored paint protection film, or PPF for short. You know, that stuff you put on your car to keep the paint looking fresh? Well, I decided to give the colored version a shot, and let me tell you, it was quite the ride.
So, first things first, I had to get my hands on some of this colored PPF. I did some digging around, talked to a few buddies who are into cars, and finally found a place that sold it. I picked out a roll of this deep blue film – figured it’d look pretty slick on my ride.
Next up, the prep work. Now, I’m no professional, but I’ve watched enough YouTube videos to think I could handle this. I gave my car a good wash, really scrubbed it down to get all the dirt and grime off. Then I wiped everything down with some isopropyl alcohol, just to make sure the surface was squeaky clean. This is super important, ’cause any dirt or dust can mess up the film application.
Then came the fun part – putting the film on. I unrolled the PPF and carefully measured out a section that would cover my hood. I sprayed both the car and the film with a soapy water solution. This lets you move the film around and get it in the right position. With the help of a friend, we laid the film down, starting from the center and working our way out.
- First, we used a squeegee to push out the air bubbles and water. This part was a bit tricky, gotta be patient and work slowly.
- Once we got most of the bubbles out, we used a heat gun to help the film conform to the curves of the hood. You gotta be careful with the heat, though, don’t want to melt anything!
- Finally, we trimmed the excess film with a sharp blade. This was probably the scariest part, didn’t want to scratch my car! But we took it slow and it turned out okay.
We repeated this process for the other parts of the car I wanted to cover – the front bumper, the side mirrors, and the fenders. It took us most of the day, but we finally got it all done.
And the result? It looked pretty awesome, if I do say so myself! The blue film gave my car a whole new look, and it’s supposed to protect the paint from scratches and chips too. Plus, it was way cheaper than getting a whole new paint job.

Overall, it was a fun little project. A bit of a learning curve, but totally worth it. If you’re thinking about trying out colored PPF, I’d say go for it! Just make sure you do your research, take your time, and maybe grab a buddy to help you out. You might just surprise yourself with what you can achieve. As for me? I’ll be back and updating you on how the film holds up after a few months!
