Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again! Today, I’m gonna talk about something a bit different that I did last weekend – I went to a drive-in movie theater in Jacksonville, Florida. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Drive-ins? Are those even still around?” Well, let me tell you, they are, and it was a blast from the past!
So, I started my adventure by doing some digging online. I typed in “drive-in movie theaters in Jacksonville, FL” into the good old search bar, and guess what? A few options popped up. Yelp was my go to and listed a bunch of places, including Crayons Cinema, Epic Theatres at Oakleaf, Cinemark Tinseltown and XD, and Regal Avenues. Then read people were saying about drive-in theater in Jacksonville. After reading some reviews, I narrowed it down to a couple that sounded promising. There were also some others mentioned, like AMC Regency 24 and Cinemark Durbin Park and XD, but they didn’t quite catch my eye this time.
Checked Sun Ray’s Drive-in, found it is a small, single screen drive-in movie theater located in Jacksonville, and found there are 6 Drive-In Movie Theaters in Florida. But after a little more deliberation, I decided to go with Sun Ray’s Drive-in. It just had that classic vibe I was looking for. Plus, it was recommended as one of the most nostalgic experiences, and who doesn’t love a good dose of nostalgia?
Getting Ready
Once I had my destination, I gathered up the family, because what’s a drive-in movie without your loved ones, right? We packed some snacks, grabbed some blankets, and piled into the car. Now, here’s a pro tip for y’all: they park you based on your car size. So, if you’ve got a smaller car, you’ll be up front, and if you’re rolling in an SUV, you’ll be a bit further back. This way, everyone gets a good view of the screen, which I thought was pretty smart.
At the Drive-In
We arrived at Sun Ray’s, and it was like stepping back in time. The whole setup was just so cool, with the big screen and the rows of cars. We tuned our radio to the right station to get the movie audio, got all comfy, and waited for the show to start. Let me tell you, watching a movie under the stars is a whole different experience. It’s way more chill than being in a regular theater.
