Alright, alright, let’s talk about this here movie, “Wonka.” You know, the one with that young fella, Timmy Chalamet, or whatever his name is. They say it’s about how Willy Wonka started out, before he got all famous with his chocolate factory and them Oompa Loompas.
Now, I ain’t no fancy movie critic or nothin’. I just watch what’s on TV or what the grandkids drag me to. But this “Wonka,” well, it’s somethin’ else. It’s colorful, that’s for sure. Lots of bright colors and singin’ and dancin’. Kinda like them old musicals my husband used to watch, but with a bit more… well, more everything. More chocolate, more magic, more silliness.
The story, if you can call it that, is about young Willy tryin’ to make a name for himself as a chocolate maker. He’s got big dreams, this kid, and he ain’t afraid to chase ’em. He comes to this big city, looks kinda like Europe to me, all old buildings and cobblestone streets. And he wants to open a chocolate shop. But there’s these other chocolate makers, big shots they are, and they don’t want no competition. They try to stop him, you see. Real mean they are, tryin’ to keep a young fella down.
- They try to trick him,
- they try to scare him,
- they even try to lock him up.
But Willy, he’s too clever for ’em. He’s always got a trick up his sleeve, or a piece of candy in his pocket, or somethin’. He’s like a little magician, that one. He can make chocolate do just about anything. He can make it fly, he can make it sing, he can even make it… well, I don’t wanna spoil it for ya, but he can do some pretty amazing things with chocolate.
Now, about that Timmy fella. He’s a good-lookin’ young man, I’ll give him that. And he can sing and dance alright. He puts a lot of pep into it, you know? He makes you believe that he really loves chocolate. And that’s important ain’t it? He smiles a lot, he bounces around, and he’s always got this twinkle in his eye. You can tell he’s havin’ fun, and that makes it fun for the rest of us.
The other actors, they’re good too. There’s this little girl, she helps Willy out, and she’s a real firecracker. And there’s this bunch of bad guys, the chocolate cartel or somethin’, and they’re so over-the-top you can’t help but laugh at ’em. And then there’s Hugh Grant, as an Oompa Loompa! I never did see such a small man, orange as the day is long. He was good too, even for looking like he does, though I remember them Oompa Loompas used to be smaller.
But is it a Christian movie, like the title asks? Well, I don’t know about that. There ain’t no preachin’ or nothin’. But it’s got a good message, I reckon. It’s about followin’ your dreams, and bein’ kind to others, and not lettin’ the big guys push you around. And it’s about the magic of chocolate, which, I guess, could be a metaphor for the magic of life or somethin’. If you squint real hard and turn your head sideways.
Overall, I liked it. It ain’t perfect, mind you. Sometimes it’s a little too silly, a little too over-the-top. And the singin’ and dancin’ can get a bit tiresome after a while. But it’s got heart, this movie. It’s got charm. And it’s got a whole lotta chocolate. And sometimes, that’s all you need.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a movie that’ll make you smile, make you laugh, and maybe even make you crave a chocolate bar or two, then go see “Wonka.” It ain’t gonna change your life or nothin’, but it’ll give you a good time. And that’s worth somethin’, ain’t it?
Just don’t expect no deep thinkin’ or nothin’. It’s a movie about chocolate, for goodness sake. And sometimes, that’s all a body needs.
One more thing, they say it’s a prequel. That means it’s before the other movie, the one with Gene Wilder. Now that was a movie. I still remember it to this day. This young Timmy did good though. He really did make me remember some of old Gene, may he rest in peace.
In conclusion, go see the movie, it ain’t half bad. Take the kids, take the grandkids. Heck, take your neighbor too. It’s good for a laugh and it makes you feel good. Can’t ask much more than that now, can ya?
