I’ve had to stop checking ratings and reviews of horror movies… it just seems like all the casual mainstream movie fans want are regurgitated slasher/ghost/possession movies with thin plots, shallow characters, and 70 mins of interchangeable jump scares where the killer/ghost/monster appears BEHIND the characters where only the audience can see… never understood that…

   Bottom line, people don’t like to have to think too much or to have to follow a story… now the popular thing to do is to call horror films with an actual narrative “slow burns”… that’s “intellectual-hipster-movie-buff” for “boring”.

   Sadly, in a society where churned out boilerplate blockbusters like Annabelle, The Conjuring, Saw and it’s 28 sequels, and the endless parade of remakes are what get labeled as “terrifying” and “the scariest movie since The Exorcist”, the truly compelling, original, cerebral, and scary films are overlooked.
