Okay, here’s my take on how to find Criterion Collection films on Netflix, written in the style of a personal blog post:
So, the other day I was really itching to watch a classic movie. You know, something artsy, something with subtitles maybe, something… Criterion Collection-worthy. I’d heard whispers that some Criterion films were hiding on Netflix, but I wasn’t sure how many, so I decided to do a little research to find the exact location.
Digging In
First, I just did a simple check directly on Netflix. I typed “Criterion Collection” into the search bar. Nothing. Nada. Okay, Plan A was a bust.
Next, I figured, maybe there’s a secret code or something? No, I didn’t find any, so I tried checking some third-party websites that track Netflix’s library. Seems like they used to have a dedicated “Criterion Collection” section, but it’s long gone. Bummer!
Figuring It Out (Sort Of)
But I’m persistent. I started thinking, if I can’t search for “Criterion,” maybe I can search for individual movies I know are in the collection. Then see if they are available.
I did a search. I popped in some titles I knew were Criterion classics .
- Tried “Seven Samurai”.
- Then “The Seventh Seal”.
- even typed in “8 1/2”.
Nope no related results show on my Netflix.
The (Disappointing) Reality
So, here’s the deal, after all that searching and digging: It seems Netflix doesn’t really make it easy to find Criterion films anymore. And I did not find any one of them on Netflix.
It’s a bit of a treasure hunt, and you kind of have to know what you’re looking for.
I’m a bit disappointed .
I guess I’ll keep an eye out and maybe do some more specific title searches in the future. It’s a bit of a bummer, but hey, that’s streaming services for you – always changing!
