“My memory of the British police is corrupt coppers.” HBO and Channel 4 have unveiled an official trailer for a crime thriller series called Get Millie Black, created & written by the acclaimed Jamaican author named Marlon James. This is already filmed and ready for release in a few weeks – streaming on Max in the US in addition to Channel 4 in the UK. An ex-Scotland Yard detective returns to Kingston to work in missing persons and finds herself on a quest to solve a case that will blow her world apart. “A mystery clashes with personal dilemmas.” Detective Millie-Jean Black returns to Jamaica to work missing persons cases, finding herself on a quest to save a sibling who won’t be saved, to find a child who can’t be found, and to solve a case that will prove almost as tough to crack as Millie Black. Starring Tamara Lawrance as Millie Black, Joe Dempsie, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, and Chyna McQueen. It’s great to see an actual mainstream series set in Jamaica, and not just sort of about Jamaica, taking us into the crime and corruption around Kingston.

Jamaican-born detective Millie-Jean Black (starring Tamara Lawrance) is forced out of Scotland Yard. She returns home to join the Jamaican Police Force in Kingston. She and her partner, Curtis (Gershwyn Eustache Jnr), begin to investigate missing person cases, and their lives are up-ended when one of their investigations crosses paths with another previous investigation that brought the detective Luke Holborn to Kingston to begin with. Get Millie Black is a series created and written by the acclaimed Jamaican writer Marlon James, the Booker Prize award-winning author, and director of episodes of the series “Anthony” previously. It’s produced by Motive Pictures for Channel 4 and HBO. Writing by Marlon James, Joshua St. Johnston, Theresa Ikoko, Lydia Adetunji.
