Well now, if you’re the type that likes a good scare and wants somethin’ just as wild as that Wrong Turn movie, I reckon I can tell ya about a few more flicks that’ll get your heart pumpin’ and your hairs standin’ on end. If you’ve already seen Wrong Turn, where folks get stuck in the woods, runnin’ into them inbred mountain folks who wanna eat ‘em up, you might be lookin’ for somethin’ else that’ll give ya that same fear, just a bit different. I’m gonna share a few of ‘em with ya now, so buckle up, it’s gonna be a rough ride!
First off, ya got The Ritual from 2017. Now, this one ain’t exactly the same, but it’s got that wild, deep woods feel to it. A bunch of fellas go on a hike through the Swedish forest, lookin’ to honor a friend who’s passed on. But, let me tell ya, them woods ain’t as friendly as they look. They end up findin’ a whole bunch of creepy stuff, just like those poor folks in Wrong Turn did. There’s something in them trees, somethin’ that don’t want ‘em around, and before long, they’re fightin’ for their lives.
Then there’s The Hunt from 2020. Now this one, it’s a little bit different, but it’ll get ya good. It’s about a group of folks who get hunted down by some rich folks just for sport. Ain’t no inbred mountain folks in this one, but you still got people in the middle of nowhere, fightin’ for their lives. It’s real messed up, just like them crazy folks in Wrong Turn.
Now, I reckon if ya like that type of horror—folks out in the middle of nowhere, fightin’ strange and dangerous people—you might want to check out Deliverance. Now, that one’s real old, but it’s got the same kinda backwoods feel as Wrong Turn. Some city folks go up into the hills, and well, they meet some folks they ain’t ever gonna forget. It’s real tense and full of that “Oh Lord, what’s gonna happen next?” feeling. That sense of isolation, just like in the Wrong Turn movies.
Another one to think about is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I know it’s a bit more well-known, but still, if you haven’t seen it, it’s right up your alley if you want somethin’ in the same vein as Wrong Turn. You got your deranged family out in the sticks, who’ll do anything to survive—even if it means turnin’ people into their dinner. It’s messy and real gross, just like them inbred cannibals in Wrong Turn.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ that’s got that combination of wilderness and creepy folk, you could give The Hills Have Eyes a try. This one’s about a family that ends up stranded in the desert after their car breaks down. Well, guess what? They ain’t alone. There’s a whole bunch of cannibalistic mutants out there, waitin’ to get their hands on ‘em. It’s got that same feel of danger, like there ain’t no way out, just like in Wrong Turn.
And last but not least, if you want somethin’ that’ll really get under your skin, try The Cabin in the Woods. Now, I know it’s got a bit more humor in it, but it’s still in that same survival horror category. A bunch of friends go to a cabin in the woods—ain’t that always the way?—and before long, they’re caught up in somethin’ much bigger than they ever expected. There’s a lot of twists in this one, so you might find yourself real surprised at the end.
So there you have it, some movies you can watch if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ that’ll make your skin crawl just like Wrong Turn did. Whether it’s the creepy backwoods folks or just bein’ stuck in the middle of nowhere with no way out, these films’ll have you thinkin’ twice about goin’ off the beaten path. Just remember, don’t go wanderin’ too far out there. You never know what might be waitin’ for ya.
