The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was one of them big ones. It was the second movie in that Narnia series, and it had all them magical creatures and things. The Pevensie kids, they were back in Narnia, and they had to help Prince Caspian fight off them bad guys. It was a long movie, about two and a half hours, but you didn’t notice the time much ‘cause it had so much action. Now, I ain’t gonna say it was the best thing since sliced bread, but folks seemed to like it, and it made a good bit of money. If you ever watched the first one, this one’s worth giving a go, especially if you like fantasy and all that.
Horton Hears a Who! came out in 2008 too. Now, this here’s a good one, especially if you’ve got young ones running ‘round the house. It’s all about an elephant named Horton who hears a little voice comin’ from a speck of dust. He tries to save a whole town that’s livin’ on that speck. Funny thing is, nobody believes him! It’s based on a Dr. Seuss book, so you know it’s got them quirky characters and silly situations. But it’s got a good heart, and the kids love it. Plus, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell were both in it, so you know it’s gonna be funny.
The Tale of Despereaux was another animated one from that year. It’s about a little mouse who’s got big dreams, you know? Despereaux is no ordinary mouse. He’s brave and chivalrous, and he goes off to save a princess who’s been kidnapped. It’s a bit of a tearjerker, but in a good way, if that makes sense. It ain’t as big as some of them other animations, but it’s a sweet little story, and the kids’ll probably like it for sure.
Then there’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. Now, this one was somethin’ different. It wasn’t your regular family movie, but it sure was exciting. It’s got them fancy special effects and all, about a scientist and his nephew and their guide who go exploring deep inside the Earth. The film’s got a bit of adventure, some scary parts, and a lot of surprises. It’s the kind of movie that’ll keep the whole family entertained for sure. It was even in 3D, which made it real fun to watch in the theater.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was another one that folks seemed to like. You know the first one with them animals who escape from the zoo, right? Well, this one picks up where that one left off, and it’s just as silly and fun. The animals get stuck in Africa, and they gotta figure out how to get back home. It’s one of them movies that don’t take too much thinkin’—just sit back, laugh, and enjoy the ride. The kids love it, and I reckon the adults do too.
Now, I can’t forget about Beverly Hills Chihuahua. This here movie was all about a little dog from Beverly Hills, who ends up lost in Mexico and has to find her way back home. It’s got them cute little dogs doing all kinds of things, and I’ll tell ya, it’s a lighthearted film that’ll make you smile. It ain’t the most deep movie, but for a family night, it’s just right.
All in all, 2008 wasn’t a bad year for family films. Sure, you had your big blockbuster ones like Narnia and Madagascar, but there were also some sweet, simple films that brought families together. There was somethin’ for everyone, whether you wanted adventure, animation, or a good laugh. If you ask me, the year had a nice mix of heartwarming and fun films that could keep the young ones entertained and even the grown folks get a chuckle or two.
