Well, I been watchin’ this movie called Affirmation Generation, and let me tell ya, it sure does stir up a lotta feelin’s in the ol’ gut. I ain’t no film critic or nothin’, but I got somethin’ to say ’bout it, ’cause I reckon it’s somethin’ folks should know ’bout, especially in today’s world. Now, this here film is a documentary, one of them newfangled ones, and it talks ’bout somethin’ real important—the way folks are bein’ treated when it comes to their gender identity. You mighta heard folks talk about “affirmation care,” where people are quick to go along with whatever someone says ’bout their gender, without askin’ too many questions.
So this movie, it don’t sugarcoat nothin’. It takes a hard look at what happens when people just get affirmed in their gender, without really understandin’ the whole picture. I reckon it’s good to let people be who they wanna be, but this here movie says maybe things ain’t always as simple as just sayin’ “yep, you’re a man, or yep, you’re a woman,” without really diggin’ into the deeper stuff. There’s a lotta folks out there, especially doctors and people in healthcare, who just go along with it too easy-like, and sometimes it don’t end so well for them folks.
Now, I ain’t tryin’ to say I know everything ’bout all this. I’m just speakin’ as a simple woman who’s seen a lotta changes in this world. Back in my day, we didn’t even have them fancy words like “transgender” or “affirmation care.” But, after watchin’ this film, I gotta say—it makes you think real hard ’bout what’s best for folks, especially them young ones. You see, this here movie talks a lot ’bout how kids, young folks, might be makin’ decisions that could change their lives forever, without understandin’ the long-term effects of them choices.
The movie, it talks ’bout different folks who’ve gone through all this affirmation stuff. It ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. Some of ’em say they regret it, others say it didn’t help like they thought it would. It’s a real tough thing to figure out, and this film don’t try to cover it up—it shows both sides of the story. Some folks in the film say that the system ain’t givin’ people all the information they need before makin’ such big decisions. They call it “affirmation-only” healthcare, where they just say “yep, that’s what you want, let’s go ahead and do it.” But, according to some folks in this film, that don’t always work out too good.
Now, some folks might get all upset about this movie, sayin’ it’s transphobic or hateful, but I don’t think it’s all like that. It’s just showin’ one side of the story. You see, the world’s got a lotta different folks in it, and sometimes it’s hard to know what’s right for everybody. But what this here film does is give people a chance to see what happens when we don’t take time to think things through, when we just go along with what folks say without askin’ too many questions. It’s kinda like when you’re makin’ a big decision, and you don’t stop to think it through—you might end up wishin’ you had.
The film’s got a runtime of about an hour and a half, so it ain’t too long, but it packs a punch. If you’re one of them folks who likes to sit down with a good documentary, this one might be worth a watch. You can find it on Amazon Video, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s rated NR, so I reckon it’s not too graphic or anything, but it sure does make you think. It’s a tough topic, and I reckon it ain’t gonna be easy for everybody to agree on, but it’s important to talk about these things, don’t you think?
So there ya have it. This here movie don’t just show one side of the story—it tries to show it all. It might not be the easiest thing to watch, but sometimes the truth ain’t easy to swallow. If you’re curious ’bout how we’re treatin’ folks in today’s world when it comes to their gender identity, this movie might just open your eyes to some things you hadn’t thought of before.
