Well, let me tell you, when I watched that movie “Swiss Family Robinson,” I was so upset I nearly had to turn it off! You see, back in the old days, folks didn’t think too much about how animals were treated in the movies, but now, looking back at it, it’s hard to ignore all the cruelty that went on. I mean, just the way those poor creatures were treated – it’s enough to make any heart ache. Animals, like elephants, zebras, and ostriches, were being made to do things that no living thing should be made to do!

Now, I know some people might think it’s all just make-believe, but when you watch these animals struggling, it’s hard to say they weren’t mistreated. Take that elephant, for example. They had it tied up, with hardly enough room to move! A poor creature, stuck in one spot, probably scared out of its mind. And the zebras? Well, they looked mighty uncomfortable too, the way they were treated. Some of the scenes had them being prodded and pushed, and it just wasn’t right, no matter how you look at it.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the story is an adventure, and it has its exciting parts. The family, after getting shipwrecked, works hard to survive. They build themselves a new life, and they even tame some animals to help them out. But here’s the thing—while the movie tries to show how clever and resourceful they were, it also shows a whole lot of mistreatment of animals. Take that poor turtle, pulling a boat. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’m pretty sure that turtle didn’t sign up for such hard work!

Animal cruelty in the “Swiss Family Robinson” film:

  • The zebra, trapped and shocked with electric shocks just to get it to move – that’s just cruel!
  • The elephant, bound up so tightly it couldn’t even move – can you imagine that?
  • The ostriches, being ridden by folks who looked way too heavy for those poor birds to handle!
  • And don’t even get me started on that snake scene. I can’t say for sure, but that giant Anaconda looked a little too real to me, and it seemed to be struggling as they wrapped it around those actors!

Now, I get it, back then, they didn’t have the rules and regulations about animal treatment that we have today. But still, it’s hard to watch knowing those animals probably suffered just for a film scene. It might have been the “good old days” for filmmakers, but for the animals, it sure wasn’t anything good at all.

The truth is, we’ve come a long way since then, thank goodness. These days, people are more aware of how animals should be treated. We all know it’s wrong to make animals suffer for entertainment, and it’s a real shame to think that animals were put through so much just to make a movie look more exciting. If you ask me, movies like that don’t need all that cruelty to tell a good story. There’s so much more to life and adventure than making creatures suffer for a few moments of film magic.

Conclusion:

So, when you’re watching something like “Swiss Family Robinson,” just remember to think about how those animals were treated. It might be a good movie in some ways, but it’s also a reminder of how much we’ve learned about respecting animals and treating them with kindness. As for me, I’ll be sticking to films where animals are treated with the respect they deserve. Nobody needs to see that kind of cruelty, no matter how old the movie is.
